Joe Hart says Burnley’s Europa League exploits have contributed to their poor start to the Premier League campaign. The Clarets’ season started earlier than all of their 19 Premier League rivals as the Lancashire outfit attempted to qualify for the group stage of the Europa League, something the club failed to do after losing to Olympiakos in the play-off round.
Burnley’s domestic form has been poor so far this campaign and Sean Dyche’s men are sitting 19th going into the Premier League, having taken just one point from a possible 12.
England international Hart, who arrived at Turf Moor this summer from Manchester City, believes the extra fixtures have had a physically demanding impact on his new team-mates.
“I’ve done it for years but I’ve done it in a bigger squad,” he was quoted as saying by the Lancashire Telegraph. “We’ve got to be honest with ourselves, we’ve got a squad where one injury or one knock in certain positions and we’re in trouble.
“Burnley have proved before me that they can handle the Premier League and now it’s our time to show that.”
