No Exit Plan On Zinchenko

Oleksandr Zinchenko isn’t likely to leave the Manchester City this January following the latest injury to left-back Benjamin Mendy. Real Betis still want to sign the winger after a summer move collapsed at the final hurdle, with the player also understood to be keen.

Talks have continued to take place in the last few weeks over a possible move but City will not countenance the Ukraine international moving on whilst Mendy is sidelined.

 

The France defender underwent surgery this week to repair his miniscus after injuring his left knee in last Sunday’s derby victory over bitter rivals Manchester United.

 

Crucially, it is not the same knee which saw Mendy miss the majority of last season with damaged cruciate ligaments, although he is still expected to be out for a prolonged period of time. Along with England midfielder Fabian Delph,

 

Zinchenko proved to be a more than capable stand-in for Mendy as the Citizens went on to win the Premier League title at a canter.

 

The 21-year-old Zinchenko starred in the left-back role against Shakhtar Donetsk in the Champions League last week and City boss Pep Guardiola already knows he can trust him to do a good job and doesn’t need to look elsewhere to fill the void.
