Ferrari Dominate Friday Practice In Belgium

Ferrari appear to be the team to beat at the Belgian Grand Prix after they topped the timesheets during both practice sessions on Friday. Sebastian Vettel was quickest during Practice One although his pace dropped during the afternoon session as team-mate Kimi Raikkonen took over and posted the fastest time of P2 to finish 0.167s ahead of Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton.

Raikkonen knows what it takes to win at Spa as he has done so on four previous occasions and Ferrari’s pace following their engine upgrade will be ominous for the other teams heading into the weekend.

Mercedes also boasted an engine upgrade during Friday’s practice sessions but they were unable to match their rivals, with Hamilton’s performance during Practice Two proving to be as good as it got for the Silver Arrows.

The second Mercedes of Valtteri Bottas was third-quickest during P2 but it has already been confirmed he will start on the back of the grid for Sunday’s race as he has exceeded his maximum allowance of engine components for the 2018 season.

Max Verstappen was fourth-quickest during P2 but it was not a good day for his Red Bull team-mate Daniel Ricciardo, who was competing for the first time since announcing his decision to join Renault next season.

The Australian barely ran during P1 due to a fuel leak, while he was only able to finish sixth-quickest during P2.
