USA captain Jim Furyk feels there will be a “nice buzz” around the Ryder Cup team after Tiger Woods’ Tour Championship victory. Woods secured his first title in five years when claiming a two-shot victory in the FedEx Cup finale at East Lake, with England’s Justin Rose pocketing the $10m bonus for the overall FedEx Cup winner.
Attention has now turned to the Ryder Cup, with Furyk and European counterpart Thomas Bjorn already at Le Golf National for the build-up to the prestigious event.
It looks set to be a thrilling week in Paris and Furyk believes a spectacle that is already one of the biggest in world sport will have been ramped up just a little more by Woods’ achievement.
“It’s obviously a nice buzz for our team,” he said. “Not that this event needs much more energy brought to it. It’s probably the biggest, grandest event in all golf but it’ll add that much more excitement I believe.
“You could see the emotion in Woods fighting back tears. It was important to him to win.”
