Gatland Hails Wales Strength

Warren Gatland has hailed the strength in depth on the Wales bench and believes it could help them as they look to beat Australia. Wales have not beaten the Wallabies since 2008 but will be hoping to put that right when the two sides go head-to-head in the Principality Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Gatland has made three changes to his side, with Josh Adams, Tomas Francis and Adam Beard all set to start, but there is almost 180 caps of experience on the bench.

British and Irish Lions backs Dan Biggar and Liam Williams, plus forwards Cory Hill and Ellis Jenkins, are among the replacements, and Gatland believes that could be crucial. “It is definitely one of the strongest benches we have had for a long time, for the impact that can come off there,” he said.

“If you look at the three players in the backs – Tomos Williams, Dan Biggar and Liam Williams – there is some experience there, a couple of Lions there. “There was definitely talk about the impact and importance of the bench in this game.”
