Antoine Griezmann claims he decided to stay at Atletico Madrid for the long-term because he has “complete faith” in Diego Simeone. The 27-year-old France international striker has scored 112 goals in 209 appearances for Atleti since joining from Real Sociedad in 2014 and he has been heavily linked with a move to the likes of Barcelona and Manchester United in recent years.
However, Griezmann opted to pen a new long-term contract at the Wanda Metropolitano and he has now revealed the reasons behind his decision to stay with Los Rojiblancos.
Speaking after the 4-2 extra time win against Real Madrid in the European Super Cup earlier this week, the 2018 World Cup-winner said: “I have complete faith in this club and with Coach Diego Simeone.
“I have made the decision to stay here for many years and this is the explanation behind it, you can now see how we are winning trophies too.
“We have put in a lot of work and hard effort to triumph tonight, the substitutes made a big impact and I am very happy with the result.
“The reason I am at Atletico is because there is a big project and I want to be involved with every step.”
