Gundogan Confident On Europe

Ilkay Gundogan feels a growing maturity within Pep Guardiola’s squad can give them a greater chance of Champions League glory this season. The Manchester City and Germany midfielder has started the opening three Premier League games and is set to continue with Kevin De Bruyne sidelined until November with damaged knee ligaments.

Gundogan continues to split opinion amongst City supporters even though the likeable 27-year-old was the first signing of Guardiola’s reign, having failed to make himself a regular starter since his £20m arrival from Borussia Dortmund back in the summer of 2016.
The German admits he and his City team-mates were gutted to exit Europe last season at the quarter-final stage against Liverpool, although the Premier League champions feel they can go all the way this term.

Gundogan told the German media: “I dream of winning the Champions League title with Manchester City and a title with Germany.
“In Manchester last season we had the feeling that we are ready for it. It was not enough. This year nothing has changed in this feeling.
“I believe that we are even a bit more mature. We have the potential to become Champions League winners.”
