Gundogan Has Cup Return Chance

Ilkay Gundogan could be involved in a much-changed Manchester City side to face Fulham in the Carabao Cup after returning to training.

Gundogan international midfielder has been out for almost a month because of a hamstring injury, but he could be an option for boss Pep Guardiola after coming through some training sessions this week without any problems.

Fabian Delph is also set to return from a knock, while Guardiola is likely to bring in the likes of young goalkeeper Aro Muric, Phil Foden, Brahim Diaz and Oleksandr Zinchenko, all of who featured in the previous round at Oxford, as City embark on their second of five games in 13 days.

Danilo is likely to be absent with an ankle problem, having sustained a knock on international duty, while Claudio Bravo is a long-term absentee because of an Achilles injury.

Zinchenko, who has only featured in two matches for City this season, is hopeful of being involved against a struggling Cottagers outfit who have lost four games in succession.

The 21-year-old Ukrainian midfielder, who has impressed in a left-back role for City, said: “We have a lot of players who didn’t play in the last few weeks, and everyone wants to get the chance to show yourself, show your maximum.

“Of course it’s going to be a tough game because Fulham play well. They are defensively organised very well, and always against them it is not so easy.”

City won the League Cup last season – Guardiola’s first trophy in English football – before going on to claim the title with a record points haul.

Zinchenko said: “We are Man City, for us every competition is so important.”
City will face either Leicester or Southampton in the quarter-finals if they progress.
