Arsenal have confirmed Ainsley Maitland-Niles faces between six and eight weeks on the sidelines with a fractured leg. The versatile England under-21 international was forced off during the first half of the Gunners 2-0 Premier League defeat to Manchester City last weekend with the problem and the club have now confirmed the injury is likely to keep him sidelined until mid-October.
“Ainsley has sustained a small fracture to his left fibula and will be out for six to eight weeks,” a club statement revealed.
Maitland-Niles’ enforced absence leaves Arsenal short of cover at left-back, as Sead Kolasinac is currently sidelined with a knee injury, although Nacho Monreal is expected to return for this weekend’s clash with Chelsea after recovering from a similar problem.
The Gunners have also delivered a positive injury update on captain Laurent Koscielny, who is making a quicker than expected recovery from the Achilles injury he suffered at the end of last season and he could now return to the first-team fold by November.
