Hamilton Refuses To Write-Off Ferrari

Lewis Hamilton is refusing to dismiss Ferrari’s Formula 1 title hopes after he moved 40 points clear of rival Sebastian Vettel. The 33-year-old boasted that his Mercedes’ team are going from “strength to strength” in the business end of the F1 campaign after securing his seventh race win of 2018 – and fourth in the last five – at Sunday’s Singapore Grand Prix.

And, as Hamilton took the chequered flag at the Marina Bay Circuit to edge a step closer to his fifth world title, question marks were raised about Ferrari’s decision-making as Vettel’s team cost him second place to Red Bull’s Max Verstappen.

The British driver now holds a significant lead over Vettel, but he is refusing to get carried away given that there are 150 points still up for grabs in the final six races.

Hamilton told Sky Sports: “I’m sure they will go away from this as a difficult weekend, as we’ve had difficult weekends, and they will come back stronger in the next one. But I can assure you we as a team are not cocky or overly confident, we are being diligent and working as hard as we can. We want to keep hammering away as we are.

“If they have got an answer to that, then we don’t mind that, we want that battle. And if they don’t, we also don’t mind it.”

Hamilton is also refusing to try and plot a race weekend where he could win the title and instead is just looking to keep winning.

He added: “There is just no need for me to look at the next few races and say ‘okay, I need that there and this there’ – in my mind I need to win every race. As simple as that.

“I’m just not looking at the points. Of course, that 40 points at this point, it’s nice having that, but it’s not the end.”
