Marek Hamsik has no problems with Napoli coach Carlo Ancelotti and claims he was told he would be dropped before the Sampdoria game.
The 31-year-old Slovakia international midfielder was a surprise omission from the weekend’s game against Samp given that he is the club captain and all-time top scorer having made over 500 appearances for them in over a decade.
Napoli suffered a 3-0 drubbing and there were suggestions of a possible falling out between Hamsik and Ancelotti which resulted in him being on the bench.
But the player has spoken out to insist that he knew of the Italian tactician’s decision beforehand following a telephone call and he had accepted it.
“Going to the bench was Ancelotti’s decision,” Hamsik told his official website.
“Before the game he called me, telling me that he’d make some changes to the XI.
“It was our first defeat of the season. It’s not always possible to come back from falling behind.
“We’ve played three times and done so twice, but we failed on this occasion. Still, we’ll learn and improve our approach to matches.”
