Hart Issues Relegation Warning

Joe Hart felt Burnley were unlucky against Liverpool but warned his team-mates they must accept they’re now in a relegation scrap. The Clarets went down to a 3-1 defeat against the second-placed Reds on Wednesday, ultimately losing again despite a spirited performance.

Sean Dyche’s side took the lead through Jack Cork but Liverpool responded when James Milner, Roberto Firmino and Xherdan Shaqiri all scored – much to Hart’s dismay.

The former England keeper believes Burnley can take plenty of positives from a gutsy display but he also conceded the squad must realise they are firmly in the relegation fight as they sit second-bottom with just nine points from 15 games.

He said on the club’s website: “It’s tough to take, but we I think we are the kind of team that sticks together and we’ll build on the positives and work on the negatives and that will continue. “I think we have to be realistic about it. We are in the bottom three and so long as you are in the bottom three, or five, you are in a relegation battle. “You have to apply yourself and we are certainly not going to lose sight of who and what we are and what we are here to do. “It’s going to be tough down the bottom and teams are going to pick up points – and we need to start picking them up quickly,” Hart added. “We will break it down and see what we did well again and try to use that going forwards and work on the stuff we didn’t do so well.”
