Havertz Looking To Emulate Brandt

Kai Havertz is hoping to emulate Bayer Leverkusen team-mate Julian Brandt by earning international recognition with Germany. The 19-year-old is regarded as one of the hottest prospects in the Bundesliga and in April he became the youngest player to reach 50 appearances in the German top-flight.

Havertz, who has represented Germany at various youth levels, is now hoping to earn a call-up to Joachim Low’s senior squad in the near future and therefore emulate Bayer team-mate Brandt, who has earned 19 international caps since making his debut in 2016 and was part of the squad that went to this summer’s World Cup.
“I can take a bit of an example [from Brandt], even if I would rather call him a friend and not a role model,” Havertz told German website Spox.

“It’s a shame we had to go home so early [from Russia], but maybe this tournament has also opened the doors for other players to slip into the national team due to Julian’s achievements.”
The midfielder will be hoping to make a strong start to the new season to further boost his international chances, with Bayer set to travel to Borussia-Park to take on Borussia Monchengladbach in their Bundesliga opener on Saturday.
