Hearts manager Craig Levein wants to extend defender Jimmy Dunne’s loan stay beyond January but has not yet spoken to Burnley. The Clarets allowed the Drogheda-born centre-back to join the Edinburgh club in the summer after extending his contract until 2020.

Dunne’s loan runs until January but, speaking after the 21-year-old helped Hearts extend their Scottish Premiership lead to six points at Dundee on Tuesday, Levein admitted he wants to keep the player for the rest of the campaign.
“I’ve already spoken to Jimmy about extending the loan and I just need to get in touch with Burnley,” said the former Scotland boss.
“Jimmy, for a young guy, has brought a lot of calmness to the team along with his obvious attributes. He is a good passer of the ball, strong in the air and has decent pace. He is a calm boy, low maintenance and is not difficult to deal with at all.”
