Ander Herrera is expected to discuss his immediate Old Trafford future during the international break early next month. The Manchester United midfielder has made it clear he wishes to remain with the Red Devils despite having less than a year left on his deal.
Talks have been slow to progress but United insiders have insisted the club’s hierarchy will not leave the Spaniard in limbo for much longer.
They know the player has interest back in his homeland but the 29-year-old remains committed to the United cause and is not trying to bluff them.
That is understood to have resonated well with the suits upstairs at the club, whose primary focus during the summer months was to try and bring in the new faces Jose Mourinho had asked for.
Herrera has a young family and is settled, with suggestions the former Athletic Bilbao man is not even looking to leverage a massive hike on his present £120,000-per-week package.
United paid £30m to land the player back in 2014 and certainly do not want to allow the player to leave for nothing next year.
The Manchester giants have a number of contractual loose ends to tie up and see the international break as the perfect opportunity to sit down with Herrera and some other members of the squad.
