Red Bull team principal Christian Horner has warned his team that their only realistic chance of winning again in 2018 is in Mexico. The Austrian team have won three races this season with Max Verstappen taking the spoils at the team’s home Grand Prix, while Daniel Ricciardo, primed for a departure to Renault in 2019, won in both China and Monaco.
Despite closing the gap slightly from last season, Red Bull have definitely been the third strongest team in the F1 paddock this season and have not come close enough to ending the dominance of Ferrari and Mercedes.
Even though the next race is in Russia next weekend, Horner is already concentrating his efforts on Mexico next month, a track in which he feels is the only one the car is capable of winning on.
“I think realistically Mexico is probably the only shot we have got left, under normal circumstances,” Horner admitted.
“Hopefully we can get a few more podiums in before the end of the year.”
