Hornets Failed With Alcacer Bid

Watford reportedly made a late attempt to sign Barcelona forward Paco Alcacer on loan this summer, only to fail to agree terms. The Hornets were keen to bring in a new attacker following the sale of Richarlison to Everton but missed out on adding to their frontline before the transfer window shut.

Reports in Spain have now emerged claiming Watford tried to land Spaniard Alcacer on a two-year loan agreement with a view to a permanent move but were unable to agree upon the terms of the switch, despite Barcelona being open to letting him leave.

The 24-year-old’s career has stalled since he made the switch to the Nou Camp from Valencia in 2016, struggling to nail down a spot in the first-team due to the presence of Luis Suarez, Lionel Messi and, before his move to Paris Saint-Germain, Neymar.

The likes of Real Betis and Nice are both said to be keen on Alcacer and could still land him with the European transfer window running until the end of August.

Should he still be at Barca come January and with Watford having failed to find an alternative forward in the summer, the Hornets could look to resurrect their interest in Alcacer.
