Watford midfielder Will Hughes has revealed he came close to passing up a career in football altogether in favour of tennis. The ex-Derby County star specialised in both football and tennis during his time at Repton School, a co-educational independent school for boarding and day pupils in Derbyshire.
He told Watford’s website: “Sport was taken really seriously, it was a good standard.
“I contemplated staying for sixth form because the sport was so strong. They have got internationals across all different sports.
“I was okay at lots of sports but good at racket sports.
“I played a lot of tennis when I was younger. Until I was 12-13 I was going on a similar path with tennis to what I was with football.
“I really enjoyed it and I was playing both at the same level and I had to make a choice. Thankfully, I chose football.”
