Former boss Maurizio Sarri knows him well from his time in charge of Partenopei and that has kicked off reports suggesting that a reunion at Stamford Bridge could be on the cards at some point in future.
The rumours have also been fuelled by the fact the player appears to be in no rush to commit his future to Napoli by penning a new deal.
The player’s agent Mario Guiffrida has revealed signing a new contract is not his client’s priority currently and that could open the door for Chelsea to make a move.
“We will not talk about it anymore, it’s not a priority,” he said when quizzed about the situation. “He has two years contract and will continue in the season trying to raise the bar.
“We will see if there is a possibility of renewal or not.”
