Southampton forward Danny Ings says it’s up to him to prove his worth by impressing on the south coast this season. Having come through injuries and finding himself down the pecking order at Liverpool, Ings completed his switch to St Mary’s on a season-long loan last week with a view to a permanent move next summer.
Having struggled during his time on Merseyside, Ings knows that the pressure is on for him to make a success of himself at Southampton under manager Mark Hughes.
“It does [feel special] and now I’ve just got to prove my worth,” Ings told the Daily Echo.
“It’s not just about being a local boy here, I’m here to improve and do as well as I can for the fans and for the team.”
Former Burnley striker Ings will find himself back on Merseyside on Saturday, when Southampton make the trip to Goodison Park to take on Everton.
