Trainer Emma Lavelle is optimistic Javert will be able to cope with a step up in class when he heads to Aintree next. Javert had been away from the track for 869 days before returning in triumphant fashion at Uttoxeter five weeks ago, beating the Sam Twiston-Davies-trained Crievehill by a comfortable two lengths.
Connections had planned for the nine-year-old to go to Cheltenham on November 17 for the BetVictorGold Cup but his recent performance has forced an earlier than anticipated outing.
Lavelle has now revealed the gelding will head to Aintree in preparation for the trip to Prestbury Park.
“We’re heading to Aintree as a pre-cursor for going to Cheltenham. He’s a smashing horse, he’s big and strong,” he said. “He handled two-and-a-half miles round Uttoxeter and hopefully it should be all right him round Aintree.
“It’s another step up in class and we’re keeping our fingers crossed.”
