Jordan – Zaha Could Still Leave

Crystal Palace winger Wilfried Zaha could still leave the club for one of the top English clubs according to former chairman Simon Jordan. The Ivory Coast international signed a new contract on Wednesday after weeks of speculation surrounding his future.

Zaha agreed terms on a five-year deal at Selhurst Park and the news will come as a huge boost to boss Roy Hodgson.

The former Manchester United man will now be at the club until the January transfer window but Jordan insists the 25-year-old could still leave in four months time.

He told Talk SPORT: “I don’t want to be too cynical, obviously Wilfried Zaha came out of an academy I produced and has done fabulously for Palace, on his own merits and with the new ownership at Palace.

“But I feel while this is good news for Palace fans, what this is also about is price protection. Getting him back on a five-year contract, because I think he had three years left on his current one, will enhance the value Palace can demand for him.

“So it’s good news on one hand, but balance it with the fact there’s probably some economics behind it about establishing and holding the value of the player in the event that a Chelsea, Tottenham or Arsenal come knocking on Palace’s door next year.”
