Chelsea’s N’Golo Kante says he is enjoying adapting to his new more offensive midfield role. The Frenchman returned to Stamford Bridge on the back of helping his country win the World Cup and has made a fine start to the new season, despite a tweak in his position.
Jorginho’s arrival from Napoli prompted Maurizio Sarri to move Kante further forward where he can use his energy in more attacking areas.
Rather than sitting in front of the defence, the 27-year-old has been permitted to make runs from deep, although he is yet to respond with goals, netting just once from his nine appearances for club and country this season.
The former Leicester man says he is enjoying his extra freedom, although he still feels his team-mates are still learning to get the best out of their new shape.
“I am enjoying the role [under Sarri],” he said. “It is a new challenge for me. I try to understand the move and the right players’ combinations. I think we are doing well.
“We need to keep working and keep improving and I think we can enjoy a good season together.”
