Martin Kaymer says he would not give Sergio Garcia one of the four captain’s picks for the 2018 Ryder Cup in France. European skipper Sergio Garcia will name his four wildcard selections for the event at Le Golf National on September 5 and there are several high-profile players hoping to receive a call from the Dane.
Spaniard Garcia, who broke his major duck at the 2017 Masters, is in danger of missing out on the 12-man team after failing to make the cut in three of his last five tournaments.
The 38-year-old has bags of Ryder Cup experience, having appeared in eight different editions, but Bjorn has repeatedly stressed in recent weeks that he will be handing out picks to players that are in form.
And Kaymer, who holed the winning putt for Europe in the ‘Miracle at Medinah’ in 2012, says although Garcia would be on his “ultimate team at any time”, his current form does not merit selection.
The German has instead revealed he would choose Henrik Stenson, Ian Poulter, Thomas Pieters and Paul Casey as the four captain’s picks.
