Amir Khan says he wants to fight Manny Pacquiao before any bout with Kell Brook, following Saturday’s win over Samuel Vargas. The 31-year-old started well in Birmingham, flooring his opponent in the second but was himself knocked down just before the bell by the Canadian-Colombian.
However, Khan regained control to see out the fight and claim a unanimous points win, with judges scoring the fight 119-108 119-109 118-110 in his favour.
The victory takes the ‘King’s’ record to 33 wins from 37 professional fights and talk is already rife about who his next opponent will be.
Fellow Briton Brook has never made any secret of his desire to meet with Khan but the Bolton fighter has always had bigger ambitions.
Having lost to Canelo Alvarez in 2016, the 2004 Olympic silver medallist says he wants another mega-fight, with Pacquiao at the forefront of his mind.
“The only fight that works for me over Kell Brook is Manny Pacquiao,” Khan said after the fight. “I want him. He is my number one pick. If not, we go back to the drawing board and if it’s Kell Brook it’s Kell Brook.”
