Lancashire Move Delights Maxwell

Australian star Glenn Maxwell is “hugely excited” to be joining Lancashire after agreeing a deal to play in all three formats in 2019. Lancashire confirmed the signing on their website as they took advantage of the all-rounder opting against playing in this year’s IPL.

The Red Rose say he will be available for the Royal London One-Day Cup, Vitality Blast, and will also play a maximum of five Specsavers County Championship games for the club.

The 30-year-old has represented the Aussies at Test, one-day and Twenty20 level, making his international debut in August 2012 against Afghanistan, while he’s featured in 87 ODIs, 57 IT20s and seven Tests for his country.

Maxwell said: “I am hugely excited to be joining a massive Club like Lancashire next season. “I have really enjoyed my spells in England before and I’m determined to put in some match-winning performances for Lancashire in all three formats of the game.

“Coming over to England early next year will also help me acclimatise to conditions ahead of the ICC Cricket World Cup, which I am incredibly excited about. “I still have aspirations to play Test cricket for Australia so I felt it was important that I play some First Class cricket whilst I’m over in England.”

He added: “The County Championship is an extremely competitive competition and I’m looking forward to being part of Lancashire’s red-ball team. “There are some very talented young players in the Lancashire squad and I can’t wait to join up with the lads in April and contribute towards a successful season in all competitions.”

Lancashire had earlier announced fellow Australian Joe Burns has signed for them and will be available for 10 Specsavers County Championship matches next season.
