Rony Lopes insisted that he is “very happy” at Monaco after signing a new deal to keep him at the French Ligue 1 outfit until 2022. The 22-year-old Portuguese midfielder joined Monaco from Manchester City in summer 2015 and has become a regular first-team player since the start of last season having been loaned out to rivals Lille in 2016-17.
Lopes had been linked with a return to the Premier League with City, especially with Monaco struggling at the wrong end of Ligue 1 in 19th position so far this season.
However, he has pledged his long-term future to the Stade Louis II and is delighted with his contract extension. “I am very happy here in Monaco. I want to thank the leaders, the staff, my team-mates and the fans for all the trust and support,” Lopes said in a statement.
