Seamer Barry McCarthy has confirmed his departure from Durham to pursue his international career with Ireland. The 26-year-old joined Durham in 2015 and boasts 20 first-class appearances for the county, having taken 62 wickets.
McCarthy would have been classed as an overseas player for Durham from September 2019 following Ireland’s recently-awarded Test status.
He has already made 23 ODI appearances for Ireland, claiming 47 wickets, and has decided to move on from Durham to focus on his international career.
“It’s been an absolute pleasure to be part of such an amazing club for the past four years and I will certainly miss it,”
McCarthy told Durham’s official website. “I’ve had an unbelievable experience and I would like to thank everyone at Durham for such a positive experience. “Emirates Riverside is a very special place and I have made some fantastic friends here; I am extremely proud to have a played a part in the history of DCCC.”
