McInnes Admits Wolves Target May Leave

Aberdeen manager Derek McInnes admits he might have to fight to keep hold of Scott McKenna amid interest from, among others, Wolves. McKenna has made only 50 appearances for the Dons since his debut in the 2015-16 season but has already attracted attention from several Championship and Premier League clubs.

The 22-year-old was the subject of a £7m bid from Aston Villa last summer but remained at Pittodrie and has enjoyed seven top-flight outings this term.

However, scouts from numerous clubs have watched him in action and Wolves’ name has been mentioned several times in connection with the talented stopper.

McInnes would love the Scotland international to stay among his squad but is aware that money talks and feels it is inevitable that the former Ayr United loan star will be on his way sooner rather than later.

“I’m hoping we can keep Scott for as long as possible but I am realistic enough to know that somebody of Scott’s ability is always going to be on the radar,” he said.

“Just about every club in the English Championship and the Premier League have been regular visitors to our games over the last while. “There will be clubs looking at a lot of my players, particularly Scott, who has become a key fixture in the international team as well as a key player for Aberdeen at his age.

“It is natural there is going to be interest. We will deal with whatever comes our way and not fret too much in November about what might happen in January.”
