Nacho Monreal says he is enjoying life at Arsenal under Unai Emery and has revealed he is in talks over a contract extension. It looked as though the Spain international’s time at the Emirates Stadium could be coming to an end in the summer when he was strongly linked with a move to La Liga side Real Sociedad, while Barcelona are also said to be keen on drafting in the experienced left-back.
With less than a year left to run on his contract at Arsenal, the 32-year-old has some big decisions to make on his future but has now indicated he is ready to stay in north London.
He told the Evening Standard, “At the moment we are talking with the club.
“I’ve always said I am really happy, I feel very happy playing for Arsenal. I came six years ago. I have a good relationship with them.
“We are in contact in any moment so don’t worry about that. I am happy here. That is the most important thing.”
With Sead Kolašinac and Ainsley Maitland-Niles currently sidelined through injury, Monreal is Arsenal’s only fit recognised left-back, featuring in three of Arsenal’s four Premier League games this season.
The Spaniard says he’s enjoying working under Emery, who replaced Arsene Wenger in the summer, claiming the new coach has brought in a wave of fresh ideas.
“It is good for the team. With Unai Emery, we work more tactically. He is a Spanish coach and in Spain we work a lot on tactics, set-pieces – I think we are improving in this aspect,” he added.
