Monza A Missed Chance For Kimi

Kimi Raikkonen says he views his second place in Sunday’s Italian GP as a huge opportunity to claim a win wasted.

The Finn has yet to win a race this season and remarkably hasn’t secured a victory since the season opener in 2013 during his time with Lotus.

The Ferrari star appeared on course to end his drought at Monza but was passed by Mercedes star Lewis Hamilton with eight laps to go as his soft-compound tyres dropped off towards the end of the race.

“For sure I think we had the speed [to win] but then the tyre went and there was nothing left in the end on the left rear,” said Raikkonen. “It is hard to take.

“It was a losing battle since that point, but I tried, it was impossible in the end, unfortunately.

“It is far from ideal but this is what we have got today, we did our maximum.”
