Paul Pogba starred as Manchester United beat Young Boys 3-0 in the Champions League but Jose Mourinho was reserved in his praise. The Red Devils made the perfect start to their European campaign in Bern, with Pogba proving to be the star of the show as he scored two goals during the first half before laying on United’s third for Anthony Martial after the restart.
Mourinho was certainly pleased with Pogba’s performance at the Stade de Suisse, although he preferred to lavish praise on the team rather than singling out individuals.
“If he starts arriving in possible scoring positions, that can be a plus for the team,” Mourinho said of Pogba.
“I am happy with that. The team had good stability in the midfield to allow him to go into these kind of positions. I am happy with the good solid performance of the team, more than any individual.”
The Portuguese was also delighted to see his side begin their Champions League campaign with a win, particularly as Valencia and Juventus are the other times in Group H.
He added: “We knew we had to win this match, we knew it was very important for us to go into the next three matches with Valencia and Juventus twice with these three points and we did that.”
