Schalke centre-back Naldo says he is very confident his side can turnaround their form after two straight defeats. A trip to Wolfsburg on the opening day of the Bundesliga season ended in very late defeat as Daniel Ginczek’s added-time goal sealed a 2-1 loss.
Schalke then lost surprisingly at home 2-0 to Hertha Berlin, which means Domenico Tedesco’s men have lost both their games this season despite finishing second last term.
However, Naldo, who was instrumental in getting them to finish behind Bayern Munich, says the quality is there in the squad to turn their season around and they must not panic.
“I said this already in the dressing-room after the game. The most important thing is to stay together,” the 35-year-old explained.
“We imagined things very differently – that we win in Wolfsburg and also at home to Berlin. I feel sorry for our fans that things haven’t gone well. We now have to work and be better in two weeks’ time.
“Every opponent is difficult as Hertha showed, but I’m not afraid, because we’re professionals. There are always surprises in the Bundesliga. Against Berlin we didn’t have a good day, but we have to take the positives from it. We also need the self-confidence to go onto the pitch at Gladbach in upbeat mood and play to our strengths.”
