Matija Nastasic says the potential for Schalke to improve further is the reason behind his decision to extend his stay.
The former Fiorentina and Manchester City defender has put pen to paper on a new contract that will see him stay with the Royal Blues at the Veltins-Arena until at least 2022.
Nastasic helped Schalke finish second in the Bundesliga last season, but feels the club have the potential to go one better in the future and that’s why he signed a new deal.
He told the club’s official website: “I have always said that I feel completely content here at Schalke. It makes me happy to know that I will be carrying on wearing the blue and white Schalke shirt.
“Even though we were very successful last season, I know we can still develop further. Our team is still young and hungry and everyone has fun here.”
The 25-year-old is expected to be part of the squad for Schalke’s Bundesliga season opener, when they face a trip to Wolfsburg on August 25. Their opening home game of the campaign is a week later, when Hertha Berlin visit the Veltins-Arena.
