Newcastle United have sent a scout to watch Rafa Benitez’s former club Valencia take on Juventus in the Champions League on Wednesday. The Magpies were listed as one of five English clubs – alongside Liverpool, Spurs, Leeds and Wolverhampton Wanderers – to have scouted the Uefa Youth League match between the Spanish and Italian clubs at Valencia’s training ground earlier in the day.
And it is likely that all the scouts would then head to the Mestalla Stadium for the Champions League Group H match later.
Newcastle could be keeping tabs on Michy Batshuayi, who joined Valencia on loan from Chelsea in August – although the deal doesn’t include an option to buy.
The Belgian striker, who went out on loan to Dortmund last year, has been a substitute for four La Liga matches so far this term.
Chelsea splashed out £33million to sign him from Marseille back in 2016, but has endured a stop-start career at Stamford Bridge.
