Vincenzo Nibali admits joining Team Sky for 2020 would not be out of the question if the right deal came along. The Italian has been the scourge of the British squad at times in his career, winning all five of his Grand Tours since their entry into the sport ahead of the 2010 season.
Nibali is under contract with Bahrain-Merida until 2019 and has hinted that he has held discussions with the team in the past.
At 33, the ‘Shark of Messina’s’ next contract is likely to be the last and he admits he would welcome the chance to ride for Sky if the right deal was offered.
Nibali told Cycling Weekly: “I’m happy that in the past Team Sky have considered me. “In the past we haven’t found the deal, but for sure Team Sky is one of the best teams in the world, they have won a lot of Tours de France and big tours – Giro d’Italia and Vuelta.
“We can open talks with all teams seriously and for sure Sky is one of the teams. “We’ll take the decision about my future next year.”
