Nishikori Reaches Final On Home Soil

Kei Nishikori will take on Daniil Medvedev in the final of the Japan Open on Sunday after seeing off Richard Gasquet. The 28-year-old has been in fine form during his home tournament and he continued to impress against Gasquet.

Nishikori was made to work hard during the first set but he kicked on in the second to wrap up a 7-6 6-1 triumph.
The world number 12 will have the opportunity to address his poor run of results in ATP finals, having lost his last seven, when he takes on Medvedev in Sunday’s showpiece.

Medvedev saw off Denis Shapovalov 6-3 6-3 in his semi-final and victory on Sunday will take him above compatriot Karen Khachanov in the ATP rankings.

“I said in one interview, kind of as a joke, my goal is to go higher than Karen at the end of the year,” Medvedev said.
“I was a bit far in the points in this moment. I’m only one win away from beating him at this moment, so it’s just a good feeling.”
