Kei Nishikori has admitted he does have sympathy for Rafael Nadal and Juan Martin Del Potro after they missed the ATP Tour Finals. With Spaniard Nadal and Argentine Del Potro missing out on the competition through injury, it meant Nishikori qualified for the tournament which features the top-eight fit ranked players in the world.
Nishikori, who is currently ranked at number 10, was delighted to appear at the event earlier this month but has conceded he was disappointed for both Nadal and Del Porto.
“I couldn’t make London on my own, I felt sorry for Rafael Nadal and Juan Martin Del Potro, they were forced to withdraw despite their good season,” he said. “But I was certainly gonna try my best if I had an opportunity, so at the end of the day I was happy to be able to play London.”
Speaking about his plans for the 2019, the Japanese star added: “I want to raise on the rankings, I returned to the top 10 and I want to go forward.”
