Norrie Seals Davis Cup Win For GB

Cameron Norrie defeated Sanjar Fayziev in straight sets to wrap up a 3-1 Davis Cup win for Great Britain against Uzbekistan in Glasgow. Britain boasted a 2-1 lead going into Sunday’s final day after Dan Evans defeated Denis Istomin in the singles on Friday, before Jamie Murray and partner Dom Inglot came from behind to see off Istomin and Sanjar Fayziev in Saturday’s doubles.

Norrie, who let a match point slip when he lost to Jurabek Karimov on Friday, produced a dominant display at the Emirates Arena as he romped to a 6-2 6-2 6-0 victory against Fayziev, who was drafted in as a late replacement for Istomin.

Afterwards, the world number 70 said: “It’s an extremely proud moment. The crowd were awesome.

“Big thanks to my dad for actually staying put in his seat – he was pretty nervous the other day.”

Norrie’s win in the first singles’ match of the day meant Evans and Karimov didn’t need to play the fifth and final rubber, while the victory means Britain will now be seeded in February’s qualifying tournament.
