Odegaard Refusing To Give Up On Madrid Dream

Real Madrid midfielder Martin Odegaard insists he is still hoping to feature for the club despite being loaned out for another season. The 19-year-old signed for the Spanish giants in 2015 but he has yet to make an impression at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Odegaard spent two seasons on loan at Eredivisie side Heerenveen, where he made 43 appearances but he returned to the Netherlands in the summer.

Madrid loaned the playmaker to Vitesse Arnhem and he has since made nine appearances there.
Odegaard admits he expected to stay in Spain but he refuses to give up hope that he will one day become a regular first-team star.

He told Marca: “I was hoping to have a place in Madrid, I trained all summer and played a few minutes in pre-season. “But in the end the club and I decided that the best option for me was to play somewhere else, it is never easy to accept straight away.

“But you have to be modest, how many 19-year-olds are in Madrid? The road is long and I have confidence in myself, I know I have to work hard, learn in each game and keep adding minutes. “My final goal is clear: continue playing and improving because I renewed my contract (at Madrid) and I take that as a gesture of confidence.”
