Pauline Parmentier ended Heather Watson’s bid to reach the final of the Coupe Banque National in Quebec City with a three-set win. British number three, Watson, was chasing her fourth WTA title in Canada and looked on course to secure a place in the final when she broke the French eighth seed twice in the first set to go into the lead.
However, Parmentier broke Watson three times in the second to level up the contest, before the third set went all the way to a tie-break, only for the 32-year-old to come out on top 5-7 6-3 7-6 (7-5) in two hours and 35 minutes.
Parmentier will face American qualifier Jessica Pegula in the final after she defeated compatriot Sofia Kenin 4-6 6-2 6-4.
She will look to follow up April’s victory in Istanbul which ended her 10-year wait for another WTA title.
