Pavan Claims First Euro Win In Prague

Andrea Pavan claimed his first European Tour title win with a two-shot success at the Czech Masters in Prague on Sunday. The 29-year-old Italian went into the final round leading alongside Ireland’s Padraig Harrington and it looked like his long wait for the taste of victory would go on as his closest rival led by three shots at the turn at the Albatross Golf Resort.

Indeed Harrington still boasted a two-shot cushion with five to play, but the 46-year-old three-time major winner bogeyed the 15th to give Pavan a glimmer of hope.
And he capitalised with three birdies in the space of four holes before keeping his cool to par the 18th to record a five-under-par 67 and finish on 22-under for the tournament.

Speaking after a first European Tour win at the 112th attempt, Pavan said: “I can’t believe it to be honest – you know when you go against great players you have to stay aggressive and that’s what I did.
“I want to enjoy this success because it’s very difficult to achieve.”

Despite missing out on a 16th Tour title and first since 2016, Harrington will be boosted at his performance just a week after losing his PGA Tour playing privileges after missing the cut at the Wyndham Championship.

Malaysia’s Gavin Green finished in third place on 17-under with Lee Slattery and Scott Jamieson another two shots further back and seven behind Pavan.
