West Ham boss Manuel Pellegrini says consistency will be the key to Andriy Yarmolenko’s chances of success at the club. The Ukrainian joined the Hammers on the back of a mixed one-season spell at Borussia Dortmund and demonstrated his class with a brace in last Sunday’s 3-1 win at Everton.
Yarmolenko was coveted across Europe before joining Dortmund but his lack of consistency, combined with niggling injuries, has often been a turn off for would-be suitors.
Pellegrini says the winger has all the necessary attributes to thrive in the Premier League and is again likely to put his faith in the 28-year-old on Sunday against Chelsea.
However, the boss admits learning to put a run of performances together will be the key to his chances of becoming a Hammers hero in the Premier League.
“I said before that he needs some weeks to be used to playing in the Premier League,” the Chilean told reporters.
“We know he has quality, he showed that quality but in this league you need more – pace, tactical things – he demonstrated those.
“I think that this performance, we must demand from him to give more because he is able to be a top player.”
