Eddie Howe believes club-record signing Jefferson Lerma will bring a new level of physicality to the Bournemouth midfield this season. The Cherries splashed out £25million to bring the 23-year-old to the south coast from Levante this summer but the Vitality Stadium faithful have yet to get a glimpse of the Colombian.
Howe opted to leave Lerma out of his squad for the opening-day win over Cardiff having decided to give him an extended break following his exertions at the World Cup with Colombia.
The Bournemouth boss has refused to reveal when Lerma will make his debut but says he has seen enough in training to know what to expect when he does finally feature in the Premier League.
“I think he will bring a real physicality and athleticism to our midfield,” said Howe. “He has a really good engine, he is a box-to-box player and is very good technically.
“He has good experience and has played in a very good league and for his country so there is certainly a lot to like.
“He has the profile that we are looking for, he is a good age and we think he will improve with us so I am excited to see him play.”
