Pjanic Sets Sights On Champions League Final

Miralem Pjanic believes Juventus are real contenders for the Champions League title after claiming a 2-0 win with 10 men at Valencia. The Bianconeri saw star man Cristiano Ronaldo dismissed in the first half but still came away from the Mestalla with all three points.

Pjanic grabbed both goals from the penalty spot, beating ex-Juve keeper Neto in goal, and the Bosnian is bullish on his side’s chances of taking the title for the first time since 1996.

“It wasn’t easy to step up to the spot, because the ball didn’t seem to want to go in before then,” said Pjanic, as reported by UEFA’s official website.

“Not to mention that in front of me I had Neto, against whom I took so many penalties in training.

“The red card? Football is crazy. At half-time we could have been at least three goals up.

“We did a similar thing two years ago in Lyon when we managed to win with 10 men. After that we got to the final. We want to repeat that.”

Ronaldo will miss the next Champions League game against Young Boys on October 2 but could still be available for Juve’s double header against his former club Manchester United.

The Portuguese star has received an automatic one-match ban and UEFA could extend that to three, but Juve would then have the chance to appeal the decision.
