Pouille Relishing Mauresmo Partnership

Frenchman Lucas Pouille admits he is looking forward to working with Amelie Mauresmo and hopes to do “great things” with his new coach.

Mauresmo was tipped to become France’s next Davis Cup captain but revealed earlier his week that she would not take the job and will instead coach her compatriot.

Pouille, whose greatest achievements in the sport to date are quarter-final appearances at Wimbledon and the US Open in 2016, recently split with his long-time coach Emmanuel Planque and has been searching for a new mentor.

The 24-year-old opted to thrown his lot in with Mauresmo, who shocked the tennis world when she was announced as Andy Murray’s coach in June 2014.

She parted company with the former world number one in May 2016 and has since had a second child, but is now ready to get back to work.

Pouille reached three finals in 2018 but claimed just one tournament – the Open Sud de France – and he hopes for more success with Mauresmo in his corner.

“I am very happy to start my new collaboration with Amelie Mauresmo,” he said. “Her experience as a player and coach can help me achieve my goals. I am sure we are going to do great things together.”
