Captain Kieran Read was delighted that his All Blacks managed to beat a tough Argentina side in the Rugby Championship on Saturday. New Zealand made it three wins from three in this season’s competition with a 46-24 success at Trafalgar Park in Nelson, as scrum-half TJ Perenara scored in each half.
There were further tries by winger Nehe Milner-Skudder, Shannon Frizell and Jack Goodhue while Read also crossed the whitewash as the world champions netted a bonus point in the victory.
Pumas’ fly-half Nicolas Sanchez ended with 14 points including a try while Ramiro Moyano and full-back Emiliano Boffelli also got on the score sheet.
The South Americans beat South Africa last time out and seemed intent on shocking the hosts this weekend, and Read was pleased that his men were able to overcome an aggressive opposition.
“The Argies really brought it to us today, and we expected that,” he said. “A lot of enterprise but not a lot of accuracy out there.
“You look at the scoreboard, we went alright there but not up to our high standards I guess. To take a bonus point win, we’re stoked with that.”
