Real Did Not Want Ronaldo Exit – Perez

President Florentino Perez insists Real Madrid did not want to sell Cristiano Ronaldo but the deal was good for all parties concerned. Ronaldo left the Bernabeu in the summer after nine trophy-laden years that included winning the Champions League on four occasions.

He was also part of two La Liga-winning sides and lifted the Copa del Rey trophy twice as well, while he has claimed four of his five Ballon d’Or awards as a Real player.

Rumours began to grow that the Portugal skipper might be on his way in the off-season and he eventually signed for Serie A giants Juventus on a four-year deal.

It was a move that shocked the footballing world and Perez has made it clear that, although the move had his blessing, it was not what the club desired.

“We did not want to sell him, but he wanted to go for personal reasons and we understood that, for all the good things he had done, we had to open the door for him,” he said. “We got the highest value we could.”
