Real Madrid have re-signed former striker Mariano from French side Lyon before the closure of the transfer window. Mariano left Los Blancos 14 months ago, but will now return to the club after Real activated their buy-back option with reports claiming he has penned a five-year deal.
La Liga rivals Sevilla had been hoping to do a deal after their president Jose Castro revealed a transfer had been agreed between the two clubs before Real nipped in.
As Real still own 35% of the player’s rights it is thought they will pay just 22million euros to get the 25-year-old back, despite the fee in the media being touted as 33million.
Real have been on the lookout for more firepower following the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo, with Paris Saint-Germain star Edinson Cavani a known target.
It now remains to be seen whether Real will make any further signings before the transfer deadline passes tomorrow, or whether the arrival of Mariano will be the last bit of business for now.
