Rojo Offered Fresh Start On Merseyside

Everton are reportedly keen to revive their interest in Manchester United defender Marcos Rojo, according to Old Trafford sources. It is understood the Toffees contacted his camp during the summer but the Red Devils instead handed the Argentina international a new four-year deal worth £100,000 per week.

Rojo would have been in the final year of his contract so United were simply being prudent, but Everton believe boss Jose Mourinho could now be tempted by a fresh approach. The United boss wants to bring in another central defender in January, which could make the 28-year-old surplus to requirements, having not played a single game so far this campaign.

Rojo has had his fair share of injury problems since arriving in Manchester from Sporting Lisbon back in 2014 although that doesn’t appear to be putting off Everton boss Marco Silva, who knows all about his qualities from his time in Portugal.

Wolverhampton Wanderers were also said to be willing to pay a fee of around £20million back in July and United would demand a similar figure from Everton, which would still represent a small profit on a player they were able to land after paying his £14million release fee at the time.
